Barricades for Crowd Control in Bay Area Wal*Marts
Black Friday shopping at Wal*Marts & Target have become notorious for huge crowds of shoppers. There have been many news stories over the years highlighting what happens when Wal*Mart, Target or other popular stores open the doors for the Black Friday shopping crowd.
Wal*Mart, Target and other stores use temporary barricades to help funnel the flow of shoppers toward the front doors. This helps to keep shoppers from being jammed and pushed up against the front doors which could result in shoppers being trampled, which has occurred at times in the past.
This Black Friday, we supplied temporary barricades for the following stores in the San Francisco Bay Area:
Wal*Mart
- San Leandro-Hesperian Blvd
- Antioch- Lone Tree Way
- Oakland-Edgewater Drive
- Richmond-Hilltop Mall Road
- Martinez-Arnold Drive
- San Jose- Story Road
Target:
- San Jose-Story Road
- Red Wood City- El Camino Real

Protest Rallies need Temporary Fencing & Barricades
Occupy Berkeley, occupy San Francisco or occupy Oakland, San Jose….
Protest rallies lie at the heart of our American values and political system, but one thing a good protest rally with a large crowd needs is temporary fencing and barricades for traffic and crowd control.
Organizing a peaceful rally takes into consideration not only what is needed to make the point – getting the message across – but also how to conduct the rally in a way that safeguards property and life. Rerouting traffic around a rally and providing security for overnight rallies are just two considerations for temporary fencing and barricade use.
Whether a protest rally, a political rally, a parade or a music concert – Hanson & Fitch Temporary Site Services can supply the needed temporary fencing and barricades.
Portable Toilets and Temporary Restrooms are also often needed for protest rallies and other large events. Temporary Site Services can not only supply temporary fencing and barricades, we can also supply portable toilets and temporary restrooms.

Portable Toilet News You Don’t Want to Miss
Tampa, Florida (The Weekly Vice) — Lorenzo Earl Knight, a 22-year-old Florida man was arrested on burglary and theft charges after police say he broke into a vehicle and then hid in a nearby portable toilet. Before police arrived however, Mr. Knight discovered why a port-a-potty is the last place a burglar wants to hide.
Investigators say the incident began when Lorenzo Knight broke into a 1999 Ford F-150 in a mall parking lot Saturday and allegedly stole a $500 digital camera along with it’s owner’s manual.
Knight was attempting to break into a 2nd truck, when the automobile’s owner and a friend spotted him and gave chase, according to the police report.
Knight fled the scene to a nearby construction site and attempted to hide in a portable toilet that was also on the site. The truck’s owner and his friend soon caught up to Knight and tipped the portable toilet over, trapping Knight inside the toilet until police could arrive.
When officers arrived, they found Knight still inside the toilet, soaking wet in the toilet’s contents. Authorities also recovered a screwdriver that Knight used to jimmy the truck’s lock and a shoe he left at the scene, according to Tampa Police.
Knight was arrested on the “spot” and charged with two counts of burglary and one count of grand theft. He was booked into the Orient Road Jail and then released Sunday morning after posting a $6,000 bond.

Infineon Raceway is exploding with race fans and soaring temperatures today. There are literally thousands of people watching this weekends big NASCAR Race in Sonoma, CA.
If you ever get a chance to take a birds eye view from any of the vistas along the track, you will see bright colors of tents, trucks and of course colorful race cars going a few hundred miles an hour towards the finish line. Friday drew more race fans than expected, which is always a sign of what’s to come. The staff at Infineon moved quickly to install more crowd control fencing from Hanson & Fitch to make sure that the people stay safe and allow pedestrian traffic to move freely along the pathways.t. The feedback from the spectators has been very positive and the perception is that the race is well organized. One fan commented, “when you don’t think about crowds or being worried about seeing the cars go around track, you know there was a lot of preparation done to put on this race”.

I received a call from Keri Steinberg from Jansport Backpacks this week and they are having an event this Friday night at the Mezzanine in San Francisco. Jansport, Om Records & Mezzanine are presenting Spring Sessionsfrom 10pm – 4am. Artists that will be featured will be the Hudson Supreme Beings of Leisure, Samantha James, J Boogie’s Dubtronic Science & Black Spade.
Keri had inquired to see if we had temporary fencing that could be used as a cool way to hang her products from the wall that would be displayed during the event. She had a very specific size that she needed and that it could only be a 6×6 panel chain link fence. I explained to her that we did have that in stock and that we would be happy to set it up and deliver it as soon as she needed it. Apparently, she had called a few companies and they did not have panels shorter than 10′ long. I explained that we had all different sizes of fence that could accommodate her and that we would be ready for her next call!

With all of the anticipation of the Olympic torch coming to San Francisco, our phones have been ringing consistently for the last several days. We have received calls from local event coordinators to the Chinese Consulate looking for temporary site services for their last minute parties that seem to have just sprung up.
There is a lot of buzz in the air and certainly in the media of what we might expect with the spectators that will be crossing lines with the protests that will be going on along the course of the event. Toilets, temporary fencing and barricade are all items that are being ordered on an emergency basis in preparation of tomorrow’s event that starts at 1pm at Willie McCovey Cove in San Francisco. We currently have four (4) separate events going on at the same time and we know that there will be a few more as we get closer to tomorrow. I am also talking to my colleagues whom are also scrambling to keep up with the requests for services. It is pretty exciting.

Over the last several months our company and employee’s have gone through the growing pains of learning a new business and keeping faith that we made the right choice when we decided to add sanitation services to our customer base. We always thought it would be great to do more for the people we served and that it might be an easier method of growing our revenues, than trying to just do more temporary fence.
There are only a few companies that offer both services and we thought that we could do it better! This week I heard from Bill Kelleher at Stuart Rental Company in Fremont and he was coordinating an event on Treasure Island in San Francisco, CA. He wanted to know our availability for a certain weekend and that he wanted to rent some of our popular green bicycle barricade for crowd control. I told him that we were certainly available and appreciated the business and that we also could provide the portable toilets and VIP toilet trailers at the same time if they were on his list of things that were needed. Bill almost fell out of his chair, “You do that also”? I explained that we did and that it was a new service that fit just like cake and ice cream. We were hired that same day by and it confirmed in my mind that we are definitely on to something. We look forward to more desert!

Food & Wine Event Orders Lexus Logo Screen
We are doing more and more customized “logo screens” for customers that want more than just green or black screen to cover the temporary fence that we install. They are asking for ideas that will create a more personalized feeling for the people that walk into the event and display sponsors that are significant or have some special purpose for that special day.
Lexus is one of those special sponsors for this year’s Food and Wine Event at Pebble Beach. As soon as participants walk into the venue they will be surrounded by the Lexus logo and products.
The screen is a brand new black Elite 85 screen made by CI Fabrics out of Southern California. JT Lawson of CI Fabrics recommended a white logo to give it that extra punch. I think that the new screen looks really sharp and that the folks down at Pebble Beach will be impressed.

We were very excited about being hired to provide the temporary fence and barricade for the 1st annual Food and Wine Event at Pebble Beach. This new event will be hosted on one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.
The Pebble Beach Food & Wine will be celebrating 35 celebrity chefs and 200 wineries during the four day event. There will be internationally acclaimed wineries and chefs together with California’s regional superstars to create a series of lunches, dinners, wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, and wine auction.
Thus far, we have installed our 6′ event panels and will be attaching our signature black screen to finish the perimeter fence. We are scheduled to bring our green VIP barricade to outline the ticket booths and areas that are for special guests that require a little more privacy.
Wine, Food, and Fun People! What could be better!
